Rip currents are powerful currents of water moving away from the shore. They can sweep even the strongest swimmer out to sea. If you get caught in a rip current don’t fight the current! Swim parallel to the shoreline until you get out of the current then swim back to the shore. If you can’t escape you should float or tread water. If you need help you should call or wave for assistance. It is smart to swim where there are life guards on duty and always with a buddy. Swim safety is just as important as learning how to swim so get your child in the swim with Ocean City Aquatics! Watch the video below for more information.
